fairly quiet and well-built Jan 09, 2008 This watch winder is well built and fairly quiet (though it kept me up at night until I ran a cord and put it in the closet). I got the cherry colored one but can't find the listing anymore.
However, it doesn't properly wind a Seiko Kinetic watch (which uses a spinning weight to turn a generator that charges a battery)... my guess is it spins the watch too slow to generate a proper sine wave and/or generating a lot less power than the watch is using to run. I recently replaced the power capacitor/battery with a new one that holds more power so it's not dead, it charges up fine when you're wearing the watch, but drains completely when sitting in this watch winder.
I guess I'm stupid and didn't realize that watch winders like this are ONLY MEANT FOR OLD AUTOMATIC WATCHES that use a spinning weight to wind a spring. I DO realize that it won't wind a watch that winds from the crown (this watch does not wind that way).
I would suggest everyone stay away from any kinetic or automatic watches and just get one with a regular battery, as they aren't THAT hard to replace and you don't have to deal with recharging/winding issues that need some sort of external solution like this (and the kinetic/solar ones will need their rechargeable battery replaced anyway, just slightly less often).
EDIT: I think I got this to wind the Kinetic watch by putting the watch into the slot at an angle (like around 45 degrees from the axis of the winder turntable)... it keeps the watches weight from spinning freely, so the watch gets to the top of it's spin, then flicks the weight down (so you can actually hear the weight move). I'm unsure of the longevity of the winder motor doing it this way though because it makes the turntable lurch once per revolution (because it's unbalanced). I guess I'll see. Even getting it working is a hack and the lack of information about this issue is really confusing and misleading (including many winders specifically mentioning Kinetic watches).
